How to reverse audio in Pro Tools using AudioSuite

Cartoon person at a mixing console with a reversed waveform on a wide monitor, art for reversing audio in Pro Tools.

Pro Tools reverses audio through AudioSuite, its set of file-based processors. It renders a new reversed clip rather than playing the region backwards live. Here is the standard path.

Reverse a clip with AudioSuite

  • 1. Select the clip. Click the audio clip you want to reverse in the timeline.
  • 2. Open AudioSuite. From the menu bar, choose AudioSuite > Other > Reverse.
  • 3. Render. In the Reverse window, click Render. Pro Tools creates a new, reversed version of the clip in place.

Because AudioSuite writes a new file, your original take is preserved in the clip list, so you can always revert.

For a fast reversed clip without opening a session, reverse it on your phone and import the file. Reverse Audio reverses a recording or imported file in one tap. See the general guide to reversing audio on your phone.
